FAQs

A desk tidy is a compartmentalised accessory historically used on writing desks to hold letters, envelopes, and stationery items in an organised manner.

These items were commonly crafted from dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut, frequently featuring brass mounts or intricate fretwork.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber grain, hand-cut joinery, traditional patination, and wear patterns consistent with age and manual tool use.

It can be placed on a bookshelf or office desk to corral small items, combining functional utility with historic character in a modern workspace.

Preservation involves dusting with a soft dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the timber, avoiding direct sunlight and moisture.
