Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nests of tables, historically known as quartet or trio tables, emerged in the late eighteenth century and were designed by furniture makers such as Thomas Sheraton. They became widely popular during the Edwardian period as compact, multi-functional furniture for serving tea and entertaining guests in drawing rooms.

Edwardian nesting tables were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or satinwood. Construction features typical of the era include delicate fluted or turned legs, thin wooden tops, mortise and tenon joinery, and slender bow stretchers for structural stability.

Authentic Edwardian pieces exhibit lighter, more delicate proportions than earlier Victorian counterparts. Look for hand-turned or fluted slender legs, original natural patina on mahogany surfaces, minimal drawer hardware, and smooth sliding channel grooves beneath the tops that allow each table to nest precise and flush.

A nest of tables offers functional versatility in modern living spaces when placed at the end of a sofa or alongside an armchair. The tables can remain stacked as a compact single unit or be unstacked across a room to provide additional surface area during social gatherings.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the tables away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, warping, or uneven fading of the timber.
