Antique Derby Porcelain Figurine, "Winter" ,C. 1760s

£600    $814    €693
Shipping: Ship to United States  £30
We are pleased to present a rare and historically significant porcelain figurine, Winter, produced by Derby in the 1760s as part of the French Seasons series. This allegorical representation of winter depicts a young boy clad in a fur-trimmed jacket, carrying a bundle of brushwood on his shoulder. The figurine exemplifies the craftsmanship and artistic excellence for which Derby porcelain has been celebrated for centuries.

The piece retains its original hand-painted decoration, which remains remarkably vibrant with minimal signs of age-related wear. The base features three patch marks consistent with the period of manufacture, along with the number 123, corresponding to the Derby pattern catalog of the time. Stylistically, this series draws inspiration from the works of Franēois Boucher (1703–1770), a leading figure of the French Rococo movement.

Early Derby porcelain is highly prized for its artistic refinement, historical significance, and rarity. Eighteenth-century figurines of this quality, particularly those with well-documented provenance and minimal restoration, command strong interest among collectors and institutions. Today, the Royal Crown Derby name remains synonymous with luxury, and both antique and contemporary pieces continue to be sought after by museums and private collectors worldwide.
