Early 19th Century Limbach Porcelain Figure, Woman With Basket

£850    $1,135    €993
A large German porcelain figure produced at Limbach in Thuringia around 1825. The standing female figure rests her arms on a vertically formed basket, creating a balanced and decorative composition suited to interior display.

The figure holds a small needle case, an attribute associated with domestic needlework in early 19th-century genre figures. The basket features a moulded woven surface highlighted in blue, while the base is finished in naturalistic tones with applied scrollwork. Due to the complexity of manufacture, two firing holes are present to the underside for ventilation and pressure control during firing. A blue underglaze mark of the period is visible beneath.

An attractive early German porcelain figure of good scale and preservation.
