This early eighteenth-century side table is an authentic Early Georgian piece from around 1710, constructed in dark brown oak. The table displays a rectangular two-plank top with a moulded edge, joined to four square chamfered legs. These legs are united by straight lower box stretchers that provide structural stability, while visible pegged joinery and a warm patina highlight the rustic farmhouse character of the wood. Signs of age and wear include surface marks and slight variations in the timber tone across the top and frame. Measuring 71 cm high, 79 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, the table fits comfortably into various domestic spaces. It serves as a practical surface beside the front door for placing keys and correspondence, or functions as a compact side table in a living room, hallway, or study. The simple timber construction allows it to integrate easily with traditional and country-style interiors.

Early 18th-century oak side tables, often dating to the William and Mary or Early Georgian periods, feature utilitarian construction with straight chamfered or turned legs, lower perimeter stretchers, and peg-joined frames designed for functional household use.

Tables from this era were primarily constructed using solid native oak, assembled with wooden dowel pegs and traditional mortise-and-tenon joints, often featuring hand-planed tops and hand-cut timber components.

Authenticity is indicated by irregular hand-cut peg ends, uneven wear on the lower stretchers from feet resting on them, oxidation surrounding iron fasteners, and genuine shrinkage across the grain of the wooden top over time.

A dark oak side table works well as a hall table or console piece, contrasting against neutral plastered walls, contemporary artwork, or paired with simple ceramic vessels to ground a modern minimalist setting.

Preserve original surfaces by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the grain while keeping the furniture clear of direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
