Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This original English Edwardian antique decoy duck dates to around 1900 and comes in the original dark brown and black paint finish with an aged, distressed appearance. Sculpted from carved pine timber, the piece features a smoothly rounded body, an extended flat bill, and original glass eyes. Distinctive painted details include white facial markings near the bill and a white patch along the back, while the underside retains its original lead weight with a leather attachment. Measuring 18 cm high, 34 cm wide, and 13 cm deep, this decorative object rests on a flat base. It provides an authentic touch for a highland hunting lodge style interior and suits placement on a mantelpiece or shelf in a living room, study, or hallway today.

FAQs

Carved wooden decoy ducks were originally crafted as functional hunting aids in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to lure waterfowl. Over time, these utilitarian objects transitioned into appreciated examples of regional folk art and sporting history.

Most Edwardian decoys were hand-carved from hardwoods or softwoods such as pine, cedar, or oak. They were typically weighted internally with lead for stability on water, painted with oil-based pigments, and fitted with glass or carved wooden eyes.

Authentic period decoys display genuine surface wear, layered paint patina, and oxidation around fixings consistent with age and exposure to water. Structural signs such as hand-carving marks, early glass eye insertions, and internal weight cavities also assist in identification.

A carved decoy duck operates as a sculptural accent when positioned on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard. It pairs effectively with natural timber surfaces, leather-bound books, and brass decorative elements in traditional or rustic interior schemes.

Keep the wooden decoy in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight, central heating sources, and moisture to prevent wood shrinkage or paint flaking. Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical polishes or liquid cleaners.
