A highly decorative antique cast iron lion doorstop, dating from the English Victorian era (circa 1880).

This heavy 19th-century door porter is modeled in a striking heraldic design, featuring a detailed lion rampant standing proudly on its hind legs while supporting an ornate scrollwork cartouche shield.

The entire figure is set upon a substantial, stepped plinth base enriched with classic Victorian scroll motifs.

A charming and highly collectable detail unique to this specific historic casting mould is the lion’s tongue playfully extended from its mouth.

Expertly cast with excellent weight and density, this heavy metal door stop is a prime example of functional British architectural salvage and metalwork.

It was designed to easily secure heavy interior timber doors against drafts while serving as a commanding sculptural accent for period homes, country houses, or traditional interiors.

The authentic aged patina beautifully highlights the crisp, sharp casting of the lion's mane, musculature, and architectural base.

In very good original condition, commensurate with age, this solid iron casting is completely intact with no cracks, structural breaks, or modern repairs. Crucially for collectors, the reverse features a classic, untouched 19th-century hollow-back casting displaying an authentic, naturally aged oxidized iron surface.
