Ritas Bazaar has dated these Victorian Porcelain Figural Candlesticks to the Victorian era.
One figure embraces a stylised dolphin with gilt-highlighted scales, while the companion figure supports an urn-form candle sconce. Their idealised features, flowing drapery and mythological references reflect the continued popularity of Classical Revival design throughout the Victorian period.
One candlestick bears an impressed "S&S" mark together with the model number 159. This mark is possibly attributable to Sutherland & Sons, a Staffordshire manufacturer recorded at the Dresden Works, Longton, and known for producing decorative porcelain and earthenware during the second half of the 19th century. Whilst the attribution cannot be stated with complete certainty, the mark and overall quality are consistent with English porcelain of the period.
The pair possesses excellent decorative presence and combines sculptural modelling with restrained gilding. The threaded fitting present within one sconce suggests an historic conversion for lamp use, a common adaptation for decorative porcelain pieces during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
A charming and increasingly uncommon pair, equally suitable for a porcelain collection or as decorative objects within a period interior.

Condition
Excellent antique condition. Right candlestick: mark to the top of the sconce. Left candlestick: wear to gilding and a small firing imperfection beside the crown of the head. Minor age-related wear and surface marks consistent with age. No visible cracks or repairs.
