A late 18th-century pair of Chelsea candlesticks depicting Summer and Autumn, produced during the manufactory’s final independent years. These compact and well-modelled figures continue the established Four Seasons tradition and show the mature Rococo vocabulary still in use at Chelsea during the 1770s–1780s. The gilt scrollwork, applied foliage and expressive putti reflect the factory’s long-standing sculptural repertoire.Summer holds a sheaf of wheat and originally a sickle, while Autumn carries grapes beneath a vine wreath.
