During the Edwardian era, around 1900, architectural glass shifted from heavy Victorian Gothic themes towards lighter Arts and Crafts influences. Windows frequently combined geometric leaded cames, textured cathedral glass, coloured cabochons, and hand-painted central landscape scenes.

These panels were constructed using hand-cut pieces of coloured and textured glass joined by flexible lead strips called cames, soldered at the intersections. Details such as countryside landscapes were painted using vitreous enamel pigments and fired in a kiln to permanently fuse the image to the glass surface.
