This Georgian side table is an eighteenth-century oak piece finished in a light natural timber tone. The construction uses solid oak boards, featuring a wide single drawer to the front equipped with two brass swan-neck handles and a central brass keyhole escutcheon. The framework comprises a flat rectangular top above four straight square legs supporting the lower body. Visible characteristics include weathered grain textures, subtle surface marks, and a bleached finish lending a rustic farmhouse appearance to the timber. Practical dimensions measure 70 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. This item serves as a functional side table suitable for placement beside the front door or in a hallway for surface storage and small household items.

Produced during the Georgian period in Great Britain (17141830), oak side tables were utility pieces constructed for provincial and country homes. Local cabinetmakers made these tables for practical everyday use, focusing on sturdy proportions rather than ornate gilding or complex marquetry.

These tables feature solid English oak with pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery and hand-cut drawer dovetails. Cabinetmakers fitted drawers with cast brass drop handles, swan-neck handles, and simple keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of hand-planing, irregular saw marks on under-surfaces, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Examining the drawer construction for hand-carved dovetails and checking for peg joinery provides proof of age.

A Georgian oak side table serves as a hallway console, bedside table, or compact desk in a study. Pairing natural aged oak with modern lamps, contemporary artwork, or neutral linen creates an effective contrast between period and modern design.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year with a soft microfibre cloth to feed the timber and preserve the patina. Position the item away from direct radiators, heating vents, and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and cracking.
