This Georgian oak tea table follows a clean English Country House style, rendered in a warm brown timber with a distinct visible grain and an original aged patina. The rectangular folding top sits above a plain apron containing a single central frieze drawer, fitted with an ornate brass drop handle shaped as a decorative drop. Straight tapered square legs support the case structure from beneath, and a rear leg swings outward to support the hinged leaf when open. Surface wear shows light marks and minor surface scratching across the top planks, while the woodwork displays simple linear moulding framing the drawer front. Measuring 75 cm high, 87 cm wide, and 44 cm deep, the table fits neatly into domestic spaces as an accent console or serving surface. Placed beside the front door, it provides a convenient drop-off spot for keys and post, or functions as a compact side table in a hallway, living room, or study where surface space is needed without a large footprint.

FAQs

A Georgian tea table is an 18th-century piece of accent furniture designed primarily for serving tea. They frequently feature a fold-over top that rests on a movable leg or gate-leg mechanism, allowing the table to function as a compact console table when folded.

Georgian tea tables were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as English oak, walnut, or mahogany. Construction involved traditional hand-cut joinery, including dovetail drawer joints, mortise and tenon frames, and brass handles or drop pulls.

Authentic Georgian pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on the back and underside, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass hardware, and natural timber shrinkage over time. The finish should show genuine surface patina rather than uniform modern stains.

A Georgian tea table works well as a narrow hallway console, a bedside table, or an entry table in modern homes. Placing modern ceramics or a structured table lamp on top creates an effective contrast between period timber and modern decor.

Maintain the surface by regularly dusting with a soft cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent the wood from cracking or warping.
