This Georgian side table is made of light oak with a warm brown colour, natural grain, and a round plank top. The construction includes a central turned pedestal column and a tripod base with splayed, outswept cabriole legs. Visible details comprise small dark knots within the wood, surface marks, and historic woodworm to the base. The piece stands 66 cm high, with a width of 85 cm and a depth of 81.5 cm. In a modern interior, this English country house table suits placement in an empty corner as a traditional accent piece. The tilt-top mechanism allows the top to lift into a vertical position for storage or display when not in use.

Originating in 18th-century Britain, tilt-top tables feature a circular surface hinged on a central pillar, allowing the tabletop to fold vertically for space-saving storage when not in use.

Craftsmen typically constructed these pieces from solid hardwoods such as English oak, mahogany, or walnut, securing the hinged top with an iron or brass catch mounted on a turned column.

Authentic period examples feature hand-turned central columns, hand-cut dovetail joints securing the tripod legs to the block, and uneven hand-sawn timber underneath the tabletop.

Position the tabletop vertically against a wall in an entryway or alcove to showcase the timber grain, or lower the top flat to use as an occasional side table beside armchairs.

Apply a light coat of high-quality clear beeswax paste once or twice a year, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and keep the table away from direct radiators to avoid moisture loss.
