This 18th century Georgian lowboy is constructed from warm brown oak with brass hardware, finished in a dark polished tone. The side table measures 72 cm high, 80.5 cm wide, and 53 cm deep, providing a compact surface with three drawers in a configuration of one wide upper drawer above two smaller lower drawers, complete with a pierced brass escutcheon and turned small drawer knobs. The table stands on cabriole legs ending in pad feet beneath a shaped apron featuring scalloped cutaways, and incorporates a thin three-plank top with an ogee moulding along the front and sides. The timber shows natural grain variations, surface marks, and wear consistent with age and regular use. In a modern interior, this versatile piece functions as a side table positioned beside the front door or in an entrance hallway for small items like keys and post. It also suits a bedroom as a dressing table or a living room as an occasional accent table.

A lowboy is a small table with drawers, popularised in 18th-century Britain and Colonial America. Originally designed as a dressing table or side table, it features a low profile, short legsoften cabriole in formand a lower apron with decorative cut-outs or shaping.

18th-century lowboys were predominantly crafted from native hardwoods such as English oak, walnut, and later mahogany. Construction typically included hand-sawn timber, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, wooden peg joinery, and cast brass drop handles or brass batwing escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century lowboys display uneven hand-planed wood surfaces, original pegged mortise and tenon joints, and uneven drawer dovetails consistent with period hand-tool crafting. Check for dark patination in hard-to-reach areas and shrinkage gaps along solid wood top boards.

An antique lowboy functions effectively as a hallway console table, bedside table, or focal point in a living area. Pair it with contemporary ceramics, a modern wall mirror, or framed artwork to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep antique oak away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and cracking. Clean surfaces using a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the historic patina.
