Art Deco Burr Walnut Console Server Table

1920 - 1940
Description

A stunning Art Deco burr walnut console server table. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, this has incredibly beautiful burr walnut grain patterns throughout. It is a great size, with plenty of storage space inside the deep drawers. The black handles contrast nicely against the walnut, the back of this is also nicely finished, so it can be used as a free standing item.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is excellent throughout. The drawers did have green felt lining at some point, someone tried to remove it before, though you can see the remnants, it has been cleaned and sanded, it is completely smooth to the touch.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, prominent from the 1920s through the 1930s, is characterised by clean geometric shapes, symmetrical forms, and luxurious surface veneers. The movement emphasised modern craftsmanship, sleek profiles, and high-contrast timber graining.

Art Deco console tables frequently utilised high-grade figured veneers, such as burr walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, applied over solid timber cores. Accents often included moulded bakelite, brass escutcheons, and polished ebony or ebonised wood hardware.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetailed drawer joinery, genuine period locks, and bookmatched burr walnut veneers with natural variation. Original handles were typically made from period-correct materials like bakelite, cast brass, or carved hardwood.

Place an Art Deco console table in an entryway or alcove to serve as a focal point against a neutral backdrop. Pair it with a large geometric mirror or minimalist table lamp to complement its streamlined proportions without overcrowding the surface.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish twice yearly along the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and moisture to prevent the wood veneer from lifting or drying.
