This Art Deco console table dates from 1930 and is constructed from English figured walnut and ebonised wood in a warm brown tone. The structure comprises a rectangular top with a raised back gallery, supported by curved side supports and a central vertical bracket above a lower shelf base and a stepped plinth. The wood displays prominent grain patterns, while the ebonised trim provides a contrast to the polished timber surfaces throughout. The dimensions measure 80 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a surface positioned beside the front door for receiving keys, post, and decorative items. The low plinth base and tiered architecture offer display space for lamps, vases, or small sculptures. The clean lines and architectural silhouette complement period and contemporary entrance hallways alike, providing both utility and a distinct profile against an interior wall.

Art Deco console tables, predominant in the 1920s and 1930s, are characterised by bold geometric forms, symmetrical lines, architectural curves, and the decorative use of highly figured wood veneers.

Craftsmen commonly used rich hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, often enhanced with figured or burr veneers, alongside accent treatments like ebonised wood or chrome plating.

Authentic pieces typically feature book-matched or figured timber veneers, solid joinery techniques like dovetailing on underlying structures, and heavy geometric or U-shaped pedestal bases typical of early 20th-century design.

An Art Deco console table can be placed against a neutral wall with a large minimalist mirror mounted above it, using understated ceramic or glass decorative objects to balance the prominent wood graining.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid veneer cracking and fading, and clean surfaces using a soft cloth dusted with high-quality natural beeswax.
