A true pair of nineteenth-century garden urns in a Coalbrookdale design stand as substantial matching pieces manufactured from heavy cast iron with an off-white painted finish. Each campagna-shaped vessel displays a wide everted flared rim ornamented with egg-and-dart moulding, a curvaceous body with deep vertical ribbing, and a ring-turned flared column resting on a fluted classical base. The entire assembly sits atop a solid square stepped plinth, presenting weathered surface textures including superficial staining and minor light rusting across the painted metal. Dimensions of each complete urn with plinth measure 79 cm in height and 56 cm in maximum diameter. Positioning these substantial items beside a front door or inside a sunlit conservatory provides an imposing classical statement for entranceways and garden pathways. The matching pair creates symmetrical balance flanking a doorway, entryway, or patio transition point. Their durable construction suits exterior placements on gravel, stone, or concrete surfaces, integrating traditional Victorian ornamentation into contemporary landscape or garden schemes.

Victorian cast iron garden urns produced in the Coalbrookdale style are defined by classical proportions, fluted or gadrooned lower bodies, egg-and-dart border mouldings, and heavy square pedestals designed to withstand outdoor weathering.

These urns were manufactured by pouring molten iron into sand moulds. They were often constructed in multiple sectionsincluding the rim, bowl, socle, and pedestalwhich were bolted together to create a unified structure.

Authentic period pieces exhibit substantial weight, crisp casting details along seam lines, evidence of historical paint layers or surface oxidisation, and sometimes foundry marks cast into the metal near the base or rim.

Cast iron urns can be placed symmetrically to frame exterior doorways, positioned as terminal focal points down garden paths, or integrated indoors within sunrooms and entrance foyers.

To preserve cast iron, keep drainage channels clear of debris to prevent standing water, treat areas of exposed iron with a rust-inhibiting primer, and repaint with an exterior-grade sealant as necessary.
