Originating in the mid-19th century, Rococo Revival console tables are characterised by intricate scrollwork, carved foliate detail, cabriole legs, and rich timber veneers such as flame mahogany.

Tables from this period typically featured solid mahogany frames or carcasses faced with figured flame mahogany veneers, constructed using traditional joinery methods.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved decorative motifs, natural age-related oxidisation in the timber, hand-cut joinery inside the framework, and matched veneer patterns across visible surfaces.

Position the table in a hallway or entryway, topped with a contemporary mirror, ceramic vase, or table lamp to create a balance between historical character and modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically in the direction of the grain, ensuring the piece is kept away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting.
