Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A bentwood coat stand is a tall, freestanding hallway rack crafted using steam-bending techniques pioneered in the nineteenth century by Michael Thonet. These functional designs feature curved hooks at the top for hats and coats, often incorporating a lower ring base to store umbrellas.

Bentwood furniture traditionally utilises solid beechwood, which is exposed to pressurised steam until pliable and then placed into metal moulds to cool into curved shapes. This method creates strong structural components without requiring extensive joinery or carved seams.

Authentic antique bentwood items typically exhibit subtle manufacturing marks, paper labels, or burned stamps near the underside of the base or frame. Inspection of the screws, wood grain direction around bends, and hand-fitted construction details also helps verify original production.

Positioning a bentwood coat stand in an entryway, foyer, or corner provides functional storage while adding vertical interest through its curved silhouette. Complement the dark wood tones with minimalist wall finishes, neutral rugs, or contrasting stone flooring.

To preserve bentwood furniture, clear away dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or drying of the timber.
