This nineteenth-century Regency period writing or side table is constructed from painted timber. The piece has a pale grey painted finish with hand-painted green line borders on the rectangular top and drawer fronts, paired with small turned wooden pull knobs. The legs and corner stiles feature faux bamboo turnings, and the frieze contains three drawers with two working drawers on the left and right alongside a central faux drawer. The table measures 76 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 52.5 cm deep. Suitable for placement as a small desk or side table in a study, bedroom, or living space, the piece provides a practical surface for writing and everyday tasks. The restored and repainted surface presents a clean showroom condition ready for modern interior use.

Regency period faux bamboo furniture emerged in early 19th-century Britain, influenced by Chinoiserie and oriental aesthetics. Craftsmen turned native timbers to imitate bamboo nodes, finishing the surfaces with paint and decorative lining to achieve an exotic appearance.

These tables were constructed from softwoods or light hardwoods such as pine or beech. The framework was then sealed, primed, and hand-painted, often embellished with fine line work, contrast borders, and turned timber handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned joint rings replicating bamboo nodes, original dovetail joinery within the drawers, and genuine wear to the painted coat. Natural wood shrinkage beneath the painted finish also indicates period construction.

Position the piece as a compact writing desk in a bedroom alcove, a console in a hallway, or a dressing table. Complement the painted finish and detailed turnings with contemporary lamps or simple framed artwork.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without applying heavy pressure. Avoid chemical cleaners, water saturated cloths, and placement in direct sunlight, which can cause the paint layer to dry, discolour, or flake.
