This pair of French chateau style hanging tapestries from 1910 brings traditional textile artistry to an interior space. Woven from a blend of wool, silk, and cotton, the soft fabric displays a palette of muted green and beige tones with dark brown tree trunks and colourful red and blue garments on the figures. Verdure woodland scenes fill both vertical panels, featuring dense foliage, rolling hills, and distant castle towers. Detailed hunting motifs show men on foot and horseback accompanied by hounds in pursuit across a natural landscape, surrounded by patterned decorative borders along the edges. The textiles measure 145 cm in length by 89 cm in width. Placed above a sideboard in a dining room, living area, or hallway, these wall hangings add historical character and rich textile texture to a home today.

Originating in major European textile production centres, verdure tapestries are characteristically dominated by botanical landscapes, forest scenes, and pastoral or hunting subjects.

Traditional tapestries were hand-woven on upright or horizontal looms using natural wool and silk yarns for the warp and weft, creating detailed figurative imagery and complex shading.

Authentic examples feature hand-stitched seams, natural dye variations, detailed weaving along edges, visible reverse-side yarn ends, and soft age-related fading in light-sensitive tones.

Mount the panels symmetrically on a neutral focal wall, such as above a sideboard or flanking an architectural doorway, to add texture and historical character to a contemporary space.

Keep tapestries away from direct sunlight and humidity, vacuum gently through a protective mesh screen, and consult a professional textile conservator for specialised cleaning or lining repairs.
