Treen refers to small, functional wooden domestic objects made before the widespread use of plastics and mass manufacturing, often shaped on a lathe.

Dairy bowls and treen items were traditionally turned from dense native hardwoods such as fruitwood, sycamore, beech, and elm due to their durability and resistance to splitting.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit visible lathe tool marks, natural shrinkage cracks, historical wear patterns, and a deep patination accumulated from decades of use and handling.

Such pieces can be displayed on a kitchen island, sideboard, or open shelving to introduce organic texture, warmth, and historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Antique wood should be kept away from direct heat sources and drastic humidity fluctuations; it can be maintained occasionally with applications of food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to prevent drying.
