Sheraton style, prominent in the late 18th century, is characterised by classical proportions, rectilinear forms, subtle neoclassical motifs such as paterae and urns, and tapered legs.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, frequently incorporating lighter wood stringing such as satinwood, rosewood, or ebony for contrast.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, dry timber with natural oxidisation, and construction methods consistent with late 18th or 19th-century workshop practices.

Pairing classical wooden furniture with clean-lined upholstery, neutral walls, and modern lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the warmth and grain of the wood.

Maintain antique wood by dusting with a soft cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying occasional applications of natural beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
