This George III side table dates from the 18th century and is made from warm brown mahogany and fruitwood with a polished finish. The piece comprises a circular dish top with a moulded rim, supported on a turned baluster column resting upon three splayed cabriole legs with pad feet. The wood grain shows distinct natural figuring across the circular tabletop surface. Measuring 67 cm in height, 43 cm in width and 43 cm in depth, the table suits a variety of settings within a home. It functions practically as an occasional table placed at the end of a sofa, beside a reading chair, or in a hallway for small decorative items.

Originating in 18th-century Britain during the reign of King George III, a tripod table is a small occasional table supported by a central turned column resting on three splayed cabriole legs, designed primarily to hold candles, tea trays, or wine glasses.

These tables were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as solid mahogany or oak, featuring lathe-turned central columns, hand-cut dovetail or block joinery, and raised dish-top or circular surfaces.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-saw marks on the underside of the top, subtle wood shrinkage resulting in a slightly oval shape over time, asymmetrical wear on turned elements, and hand-forged iron or timber sub-blocks securing the legs.

Position the table adjacent to a contemporary sofa or reading armchair to function as an accent piece, layered with a ceramic lamp, small sculptural object, or modern hardcover book to contrast period and contemporary elements.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, apply a microcrystalline or beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain once or twice a year, and position the table away from direct sunlight or central heating sources to avoid warping.
