FAQs

Occasional tables from the 19th century were designed to support light sources or tea service, featuring turned central pedestals, mahogany construction, and compact rectangular or round tops suitable for parlour settings.

Craftsmen typically utilised solid mahogany timber and flame mahogany veneers, constructing the frame with mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned pedestal columns, and shaped platform bases supported by feet.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural hand-planed surfaces on unexposed undersides, historic oxidisation, age-consistent patination on the finish, and structural construction marks from traditional hand tools.

Position the table beside a contemporary armchair or sofa to serve as a functional drink table, or place it in a reading nook topped with a modern lamp to create contrast between traditional and current design elements.

Maintain the polished finish by dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
