This Regency period cellarette is an early 19th-century wine cooler of sarcophagus shape with canted corners. Made from plum-pudding mahogany in a warm brown colour, the piece has scrolled brass mounts featuring anthemion corners alongside bronze shell and acanthus handles. The structure rests upon bold, carved and scrolled ebonised lion's paw feet, and includes lead lining visible inside the top opening. Mouldings run along the upper rim and base, framing the tapered sides. Measuring 52 cm high, 71 cm wide and 51 cm deep, the unit provides ample scale for interior placement. Suitable for an empty corner in a formal dining room or living space, the cellarette functions well as a display piece or decorative storage vessel.

A Regency cellarette is a free-standing wooden container produced during the early nineteenth century designed specifically to hold and cool wine bottles in formal dining rooms.

Traditional cellarettes are constructed primarily from mahogany or walnut, featuring lead or zinc inner linings to contain ice, alongside brass mounts and handles.

Authentic Regency cellarettes often display sarcophagus-shaped profiles, flame mahogany veneers, classical brass inlay, lion-mask handles, and carved claw or paw feet.

A cellarette can be placed in a dining room alcove, home bar area, or hallway to serve as statement furniture, drinks storage, or a decorative planter.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft cloth, apply beeswax sparingly along the grain, and maintain consistent room humidity to prevent veneer cracking.
