A 19thC brass telescope by Cousens & Son of Swansea circa 1875. Fully operational producing good clear and powerful images through its unblemished lenses. It moves smoothly on its original brass and iron folding leg stand. It can be focussed easily for both terrestrial and astronomical use. It comes with one original lens for astronomical subjects and a very useful brass adapter which alows surprisingly good magnification for terrestrial (the right way up) viewing using a modern erecting lens. Obviously some old handling and useage dents/blemises but overall a good practical and at the same time a decorative piece.
Cousens & Son operated from 20 Wind Street Swansea from the mid 1800''s to about 1900. At this time the North Dock which was close by was thriving with trade.
Main barrel 91.5 cm to max about 118 cm
Diameter 7.5 cm (3 inch dia objective lens)
Stands 52 cm high with the telescope horizontal.
