Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian desk set from 1880 is in a Victorian Gothic style, formed in warm brass with a polished metallic finish. The rectangular tray displays intricate low-relief Gothic tracery, foliate embossing, and decorative bracket feet at the corners, complemented by a pair of upright twisted rope handles attached to the sides. Two matching square containers sit securely on the base, each topped with a square domed cover featuring a central round finial and detailed surface engraving. Surface wear is minimal, reflecting the well-preserved condition of the metalwork. Measuring 11 cm in height by 31 cm in width and 19.5 cm in depth, the set is compact enough for practical everyday use. Placed upon a study desk or office table, it provides a functional writing accessory for holding ink or small stationery items while adding period character to a gentleman's library or traditional study setting.

FAQs

A Victorian brass inkstand is a functional desktop accessory designed to hold ink pots, pens, and small stationery items, crafted during the nineteenth century.

Victorian desk sets were predominantly constructed from cast or stamped brass, often featuring glass liners, iron weightings, or polished timber bases.

Authentic period pieces exhibit cast construction marks, hand-chased relief details, natural oxidisation in low-recessed areas, and occasionally British design registration marks.

Position the brass piece atop an executive desk, sideboard, or open shelving unit to provide a structured, historical accent within a contemporary study.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid abrasive metal cleaners that strip away the original aged patina and recessed oxidisation.
