Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian desk stand, also known as an inkstand or desk companion, is a desktop accessory designed to hold inkwells, pens, and correspondence materials. Emerging prominently in the nineteenth century, these objects combined practical functionality with decorative craftsmanship for home and office studies.

Nineteenth-century desk stands were frequently crafted from cabinet woods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. They often featured decorative brass or silver-plated mounts, glass ink bottles, and fabric-lined interiors such as silk moire or velvet.

Authentic pieces typically display period-specific features such as hand-cut dovetail joints, brass strapwork secured with small pins, original glass or ebonised ink bottles, and natural patina on both metalwork and timber surfaces.

An antique desk stand works well placed on a modern home office desk, console table, or library shelf. It functions as both a decorative focal point and a storage solution for stationary, pens, or small trinkets.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the wood finish. Brass elements should be wiped clean gently, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can damage surrounding timber or lacquer.
