Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sixteenth-century Flemish oak carvings are defined by deep relief work, narrative religious imagery, and architectural framing elements such as arches and botanical spandrels. Produced during the Northern Renaissance, these carvings combine Gothic structural forms with naturalistic human depiction.

Craftsmen used slow-grown European oak, chosen for its density and stability. Carvings were executed using hand chisels and gouges, often finished with a natural bees-wax or linseed oil coating to highlight the depth of the grain.

Authentic period panels exhibit hand-chiseled tool marks, irregular thickness across the reverse side, and deep patina within carved recesses. Shrinkage cracks following the natural grain and evidence of historic peg or joinery construction also indicate genuine period age.

A carved timber panel can be mounted as focal artwork above a minimalist sideboard, placed within a chimney breast, or integrated into a gallery wall. Combining dark carved timber with neutral plastered walls creates a balanced textural contrast.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry natural-bristle brush to reach deep relief areas. Apply a high-quality clear microcrystalline wax once a year using a soft cloth, buffing gently to maintain the protective layer and preserve the natural colour.
