A lowboy is a small antique side table or dressing table featuring one or more drawers, originating in the 18th century and remaining popular throughout the 19th century in British and American homes.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid native hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, often featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and solid wood turnings or knobs.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand craftsmanship, such as hand-cut joinery inside the drawers, natural unevenness from hand-planed timber surfaces, and natural patination around original iron or wooden hardware.

An antique lowboy functions exceptionally well as a hallway console table beneath a framed mirror, a compact work desk in a quiet alcove, or an occasional side table in a living room setting.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
