James Cohen Antique Carpets has dated this Antique Jaf Tribal Saddlebag to the 1890s.
This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.
I still have a few catalogues. You identify the Jaf tribe through the use of diamonds as the main design feature and it's amazing just how much variation you can fit into one design. The best ones have pure natural dyes, and an impressive array of them, as seen here. Thick pile with the original plain weave back, would greatly benefit from a deep wash. I can do this for an additional charge.
