Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A trumpet work table is a mid-nineteenth-century piece of furniture designed primarily for storage of needlework and craft materials. It features a hinged top opening to a deep, tapered storage well shaped like an inverted cone or trumpet, supported by a central column and pedestal or tripod base.

Victorian trumpet work tables were predominantly crafted from hardwoods such as walnut, rosewood, and mahogany, often featuring highly figured burr walnut veneers. Interior compartments were typically lined with paper, silk, or fabric, and supported by carved solid timber legs and columns.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on interior wells or dividers, genuine natural timber shrinkage, and aged brass hinges and locks. Look for hand-carved detailing on the tripod legs and authentic wear on the underside of the base.

A trumpet work table functions as a distinctive accent or occasional side table next to an armchair or in an unused corner. The deep internal storage well provides discreet concealed storage for modern living rooms while offering a historic decorative element.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or timber shrinkage.
