Antique Victorian Walnut Sutherland Table

Description

A well-presented late Victorian antique walnut Sutherland table. The antique walnut table has a rectangular shaped top with a drop leaf to either side, which when opened creates a larger rectangular surface top, supported by two gate legs. The antique walnut table is raised on six turned legs and castors, with a decorative turned stretcher support to the centre. Beautiful colour and detail throughout.

CONDITION REPORT:

In good antique condition throughout with some signs of age. There is surface wear in places including age-related marks, scratches and dents to the top, apron and legs (pictured), but very minimal. The antique walnut table remains structurally solid and sound, with the gate legs working well. Overall, a good example of an antique Sutherland table.

Named after the Duchess of Sutherland, a Sutherland table is a narrow Victorian drop-leaf table designed with two wide hinged leaves supported by pivoted gate legs, creating a space-saving surface when closed.

Victorian Sutherland tables were commonly crafted from solid walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, frequently incorporating turned legs, brass or ceramic castors, and finely polished veneer tops.
