Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Slender ring-turned legs: interwar Regency revival cabinet work.
Moulded edge detailing to the tops: neatly done early 20th-century machining.
Gentle wear to lower turnings: decades of handling and sliding.
Rich mahogany colour throughout: consistent with an early 20th-century build.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Regency style nest of three tables is made from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and a polished finish. The set comprises graduated rectangular tops with moulded edges, resting upon slender turned legs with small rounded feet. Signs of age appear as gentle surface grain variations and subtle tonal differences across the stacked tops. The largest table measures 47 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 39 cm deep. In a modern interior, these pieces function well at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, study, or drawing room. They provide versatile surface space for drinks, lamps, or decorative items, and can be easily separated when extra tables are needed or stored neatly together to save space.

First introduced in the late eighteenth century by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Sheraton, nests of tables were designed to provide flexible surface space in compact living rooms. The design allowed smaller accent tables to slide neatly beneath a larger primary table when not in use.

High-quality nests of tables were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut. The frames frequently featured delicate turned legs and timber runners beneath the tops to facilitate smooth sliding.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age-appropriate wear along the side runners and leg joins. Look for natural timber shrinkage on the rectangular tops, hand-turned leg detailing, and authentic patina beneath the polish.

Place the stacked set alongside a sofa or armchair to act as a compact side table. When entertaining guests, pull out the lower tables to create instant additional surfaces for drinks and books across the room.

Dust the surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove debris. Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood finish, avoiding harsh liquid sprays and direct exposure to radiators or direct sunlight.
