This unusual antique Japanese Imari dish dates from the Meiji period and is crafted from white porcelain with hand-painted enamel and gold leaf decoration. The piece takes an organic leaf form with a scalloped rim, featuring a fan motif at the top section alongside detailed floral panels, scrolls, and leafy branches rendered in rust red, cobalt blue, and gold against a white ground. Additional details visible include a distinct fan-shaped upper border, a large botanical leaf motif extending from the lower base, and fine gilded linework highlighting the surface pattern. The item measures 4 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this decorative dish sits suitably on a sideboard top, entryway console, or occasional table to hold small personal items or function purely as a display piece. Its traditional styling integrates naturally into an English Country House interior aesthetic.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export wares produced in the Arita region from the 17th century onwards and shipped via the port of Imari, recognised by rich underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze enamel decoration.

Pieces are crafted from kaolin ceramic clay, high-fired, and decorated using underglaze cobalt blue followed by overglaze enamel painting in iron-red and gilding in secondary low-temperature firings.

Authentic antique items feature hand-painted brushwork with minor natural variations, subtle spur marks on the underside from kiln firing, and gentle surface wear on gilding.

Position decorative porcelain dishes on console tables, display cabinets, or mantlepieces to introduce warm jewel tones and oriental craftsmanship into contemporary or classic room schemes.

Wash by hand using lukewarm water and a soft cloth with mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive sponges, or dishwashers that cause enamel and gilt wear.
