Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau walking sticks feature design elements from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by natural forms, flowing lines, and decorative silver or brass handles. These items were designed both as functional fashion accessories and as representations of decorative craft movements.

19th-century canes were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as ebony, rosewood, malacca, or hazel for the shaft. Handles were frequently crafted from sterling silver, nickel, bone, or horn, attached via a concealed metal pin and reinforced with a decorative collar.

Authentic silver-handled canes usually feature hallmark stamps indicating silver purity, maker initials, and date letters on the handle collar or pommel. Additional indicators include natural wear on the wooden ferrule tip and hand-carved or hand-chased metalwork consistent with historical period techniques.

An antique walking stick can be presented inside a vintage ceramic or cast iron umbrella stand near an entry hall. Alternatively, it can be mounted horizontally in a display frame or placed inside a glazed display cabinet alongside period accessories.

The silver pommel should be cleaned gently using a soft cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding contact with the wooden shaft. The wood requires periodic dusting and an application of neutral microcrystalline wax to preserve the original finish without building up oil residue.
