This French Provincial coffee table originates from 19th-century France around 1890. Constructed from natural wood ash and oak timber, the piece has a rustic farmhouse aesthetic with a visible wood grain and a pale, weathered finish. The table presents a rectangular form with a thick timber top and four outward-slanting splayed legs. Signs of age include surface distress, natural markings, and colour variations across the wooden surfaces. Measuring 51 cm high, 141 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the low coffee table sits comfortably in a living room, snug, or open-plan seating area. It serves as a central platform for books, decorative objects, or everyday items, pairing easily with traditional, country, or eclectic interior schemes.

FAQs

French provincial furniture originated in the 18th century, crafted by regional cabinetmakers who adapted Parisian styles into functional, durable designs using local hardwoods.

Traditional rustic low tables are constructed from solid regional hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine, using traditional mortise and tenon joinery for structural endurance.

Authentic pieces display natural surface wear, hand-hewn tool markings, slight structural irregularities, and historical joinery rather than modern uniform fixings.

Pair a rustic timber low table with neutral upholstered seating, woven textiles, and contemporary ceramics to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Maintain raw or waxed timber by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth, applying clear natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding direct contact with excess moisture or heat.
