These tables are characterised by utilitarian timber construction, straight lines, and often feature single or double drawers within the apron for cutlery storage.

Local hardwoods and softwoods such as oak, pine, fruitwood, and chestnut were typically utilised based on regional timber availability. Construction relied on traditional joinery, including mortise and tenon joints, hand-pegged frames, and thick planked wooden tops.

Authentic examples display evidence of hand-planed timber, pegged frame joints, and uneven wear or shrinkage consistent with age. Look for original drawer construction, wear on the lower legs, and an authentic aged patina across the timber surfaces.

Pair the timber table with contemporary dining chairs, such as minimalist upholstered or metal frame seating, to create a balanced stylistic contrast. Complement the surface with neutral linen textiles, simple stoneware, and understated tableware to emphasize the wood grain.
