This early 19th century Regency wine cellarette is an oval piece of case furniture designed for storing and chilling bottles in a dining room, living room or hallway. The construction uses dark brown mahogany timber with visible grain, accented by polished brass bound bands, a keyhole escutcheon on the front, and lion mask drop handles on the sides. The hinged lid lifts to access the interior, while the body rests upon four tapered legs fitted with brass castors to allow mobility across floor surfaces. It suits placement in an empty corner of a traditional or classic interior as a functional accent piece or side table. Visible details include the warm reddish-brown hue of the polished wooden staves, cast metal ring handles suspended from detailed lion masks, and fine brass hoops encircling the upper and lower sections of the barrel-shaped body. The slender upright supports taper toward the floor where small metal wheels provide support. The surface displays natural variation in the wood tone and minor signs of age consistent with antique domestic use.

A wine cellarette is a freestanding wooden container designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to store and cool wine bottles in formal dining rooms, keeping beverages at temperature prior to serving.

Cellarettes from this period were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, reinforced with brass hoops for structural strength and lined internally with zinc or lead.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, original brass hardware such as lion-mask handles, heavy metal interior lining, and period-correct leg fittings such as brass castors or spade feet.

In contemporary settings, a cellarette functions as a accent piece in a formal dining area, living room alcove, or home bar area to provide concealed storage for spirits or modern decanters.

Dust the exterior timber with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, keeping the metalwork dry to prevent surface oxidisation.
