£450    $607    €525
An exceptional Wedgwood octagonal Lustre bowl, pattern Z5176, created by James Hodgkiss, who served as chief designer and mentor to Daisy Makeig-Jones. The bowl is decorated with a rich powder-blue ground and features finely hand-painted lily-of-the-valley motifs both inside and out—a technical achievement rare for Wedgwood at the time. James Hodgkiss’s influence was crucial in setting the standard for Wedgwood’s lustre productions in the early twentieth century. His limited pattern series, including this bowl, is now recognized for its artistry and scarcity. Collectors value such pieces for their craftsmanship, visual impact and place in British decorative art history. Marked Wedgwood & England in brown and hand-numbered Z5176 beneath the base.
