Daisy’s Fairyland Lustre, which first appeared in late 1915 and reached the height of production in the 1920s. Daisy Makeig-Jones was one of the great women designers of the early 20th century, and she recognized in her lustrewares a well-deserved status of fine art. Given the variation and unpredictability of the glazes and decorative techniques, as well as Daisy’s penchant for experimentation, each Lustre piece is truly unique. The pieces that exist today are unique and rare works by a rare and uncommon individual whose creation is a testament to her innovation, brilliance, and persistence. Any collection of Daisy Makeig-Jones’s work ought to include her Fairyland Lustres, as they represent a significant moment in the history of ceramics, if not only as the genesis of her later works. Wedgwood Dragon Lustreware refers to a line of fine porcelain decorative items produced by the British manufacturer Wedgwood, designed predominantly by Daisy Makeig-Jones in the early 20th century featuring orientalist dragon motifs over metallic glaze finishes.

These pieces were crafted from fine bone china, fired with metallic oxide glazes to achieve iridescent hues, and finished with transfer-printed and hand-painted gold leaf gilding.

Authentic examples feature impressed or printed Wedgwood maker marks on the underside, specific pattern numbers prefixing Z, detailed gilded outlines, and iridescent glaze qualities.

Display the bowl on a dark wood sideboard or inside a lit glass cabinet to highlight the iridescent finish and contrasting gilded detailing.

Clean gently using a soft, dry cloth or lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that can strip delicate gilding or glaze surfaces.
