During the nineteenth century, the Gothic Revival movement sparked a resurgence in traditional stained glass craftsmanship across Britain. Decorative leaded panels featuring medieval imagery, heraldry, and figural artwork became prominent architectural features in both ecclesiastical buildings and domestic residences.

Traditional leaded glass panels were constructed using hand-blown or sheet glass pieces cut to shape, joined by channeled lead strips known as cames, and soldered at the joints. Details were hand-painted using vitreous enamel ground pigments fired directly onto the glass surface in a kiln.

Authentic period panels exhibit minor surface irregularities in the glass, naturally oxidised lead cames with visible hand-soldered joints, and kiln-fired painted details that are integrated into the glass rather than painted on top. The reverse side often shows distinct wear and patination on the lead channels.

Leaded glass panels can be displayed in deep window sills where natural light highlights the colours and painted details. Alternatively, they can be suspended in front of an existing window using fine chains, set into a bespoke backlit box, or leaned against a mantelpiece.

Clean stained glass gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water. Avoid harsh liquid chemical cleaners, ammonia, or abrasive tools that could strip delicate painted enamels or deteriorate the soft lead joints.
