Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Polychrome terracotta and majolica busts gained popularity across Europe during the late nineteenth century. Produced by prominent Continental manufacturers, these figurative sculptures drew inspiration from Orientalist themes and traditional genre subjects, featuring detailed moulding and colourful tin-glaze finishes.

These sculptures were moulded from terracotta or earthenware clay, fired at high temperatures, and finished with polychrome glazes or hand-painted enamel enamelling. Many designs integrated functional containers, such as baskets or trays, crafted directly into the clay form prior to firing.

Authentic period ceramics often display hand-impressed model numbers, maker marks, or painter initials on the underside of the base. Additional indicators include natural surface crazing within the glaze, firing seams, and signs of wear consistent with age along the unglazed base edge.

In contemporary settings, single sculptural pieces serve as focal accents on dark wood sideboards, marble mantelpieces, or inside styled bookcases. Pairing figurative ceramics with minimalist backdrop elements balances classical ornamentation with modern aesthetic principles.

Clean glazed ceramic surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from recessed details. Avoid immersing the piece in water or using abrasive chemical cleansers, as moisture can penetrate existing glaze crazing or unglazed underside terracotta.
