This Georgian cellarette box dates from around 1800 and is rendered in warm brown mahogany. The square timber construction displays a rich flame mahogany veneer on the top and front panels, complemented by a neat crossbanded border and prominent reeded moulding along the stepped lid. A small brass keyhole escutcheon sits centrally on the front, while the cabinet is supported on short turned feet at the base. Visible details include the dark figuring in the wood grain and fine carved reeding along the tiered edges of the lid. The box measures 71.1 cm high by 40.6 cm wide and 40.6 cm deep. Positioned in an empty corner of a traditional study or a gentleman's library, this piece serves as a compact storage cabinet or side table. The enclosed timber design offers discreet storage for bottles, small accessories, or personal items while functioning as a low display surface in a reception room. Placed beside a desk or armchair, the square proportions fit comfortably into compact spaces alongside existing traditional furniture.

A cellarette is a small wooden cabinet or chest designed during the 18th and 19th centuries to hold wine or spirits bottles, often featuring a lockable lid to secure the contents.

Georgian cellarettes were typically constructed from high-grade hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, lined internally with zinc or lead, and finished with brass handles, escutcheons, and castors.

Authentic Georgian cellarettes demonstrate period construction details, including hand-cut dovetail joints, flame mahogany veneers, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and historic interior lining or dividers.

An antique cellarette functions well as a distinctive side table, a quiet corner accent piece, or a dedicated modern bar cabinet in living and dining rooms.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically along the grain to preserve the original finish and timber hydration.
