This nineteenth-century Art Nouveau stick stand brings English Country House character to a hallway or beside the front door. Constructed from warm brown figured oak paired with a brass retention bar and a decorated cast metal drip tray, the piece measures 67 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 22 cm deep. The heart-shaped back features characteristic whiplash curves, rising from a shaped cross stretcher above a semi-circular base with neat bun feet. The rustic cast iron drip tray displays elaborate floral and foliate carving at the base of the frame. One can use this stand in an entrance hall for organising umbrellas and walking sticks while adding a functional decorative accent to the interior space.

Art Nouveau stick stands typically feature organic, flowing lines, whiplash curves, and naturalistic carved motifs popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

They were commonly constructed from hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, paired with cast metal, brass retention rails, or zinc drip trays to catch water from umbrellas.

Look for natural age patination on metal elements, original cast iron or brass drip pans, authentic joinery like mortise and tenon joints, and surface wear consistent with historical hallway use.

Position the piece in an entryway or hallway to store walking sticks, vintage umbrellas, or dried botanical stems, adding warmth and architectural texture to modern spaces.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically, while gently cleaning the brass rail with a microfibre cloth to retain the natural oxidisation.
