This French Provincial decorative vessel is a nineteenth-century earthenware and terracotta confit pot in the rustic farmhouse style, dating from 1890. It has an ochre yellow and mustard-yellow glaze with chipping, a partial glaze, and historical damage showing historical wear and surface cracks. The pot features a rolled rim, a single side loop handle, and an unglazed base with a rough, weathered texture. Measuring 32 cm high by 29 cm wide and 29 cm deep, this piece makes a characterful addition to a home. It is suited for placement on a sideboard top or as a standalone display vessel in a living room, hallway or kitchen, bringing an authentic antique French aesthetic to interior spaces.

A confit pot is a traditional earthenware jar originating from southern France, primarily used to preserve cooked meats such as duck or pork in rendered fat prior to refrigeration.

These vessels were hand-thrown using local terracotta clay and finished with a protective lead glaze over the rim and upper body.

Authentic pieces feature a half-glazed exterior, visible throw lines, natural wear around the rim, and an unglazed lower body designed for sub-surface storage in cold dirt floors.

They serve as decorative focal points on kitchen islands, sideboards, or open shelving, often styled with dried botanical arrangements or left as standalone sculptural objects.

Clean gently with a soft cloth and mild lukewarm water, avoiding harsh chemicals or submersion to protect aged glaze finishes and unsealed clay.
