This “1920'S Bacons 12" World Globe” found a buyer.

It was listed by The Antique Partnership. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.

Description

A Bacons Excelsior 12ninch diameter word globe. This dates from the early 1920's as it shows Peking China as Peiping which was changed in 1928. The globe is of heavy plaster with a brass meridian and a turned stained beech pedestal and base. It has the correct brass knurled nut to the top and a brass nut to the base together with wooden washers enabling it to rotate perfectly. This was probably a school globe and in the past it has suffered damage perhaps from being knocked over. The damage was obviously repaired but this has left indentations and cracks (all of which are completely stable) together with re colouring and place name patches. There have been repairs to both poles. Much of the detail however is good...Europe Russia North America Canada and Australia are all intact Some of central America Central Africa and Indonesia show areas of old damage all of which are shown in the photographs. Decoratively the globe stands well and looks good and as such would be fine as a film prop. As a scientific instrument it is adequate but not perfect

The globe is 31 cm in diameter stands 57 cm high and the base is 21 cm in diameter.

OVERSEAS buyers please ask for shipping costs before purchasing.

The Antique Partnership has dated this Antique Terrestrial Globe to the 1920s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Globes from the early 20th century reflect the geopolitical boundaries, colonial territories, and geographical knowledge of the period prior to major mid-century territorial shifts.

Traditional globes typically feature a papier-mache or plaster sphere covered in printed paper gores, mounted on a turned wooden base with a brass or bronze half-meridian ring.

Authenticity and date are determined by examining the printed geographical names of countries and capitals, cartographer markings, publisher credits, and the manufacturing techniques of the paper gores and stand.

An antique globe adds a layer of intellectual charm and tactile interest when placed on a study desk, a bookshelf, or a console table within a traditional or transitional interior scheme.

Globes should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of the paper and inks, and maintained in a stable environment away from excess humidity and extreme temperature fluctuations.
