This plaster bust depicts a young girl wearing a soft upturned hat with her ginger curls visible at the sides, set upon a dark rectangular plinth with scrolled corners at each end. Dating from the period 1920 to 1930 in a French Art Deco style, the sculpture has a polychrome patina with a mix of shades of soft browns, greens, and red lips, alongside a draped collar with a button detail and the registration 181 CF PARIS marked on the back. The sculpture stands 35 cm high with a base measuring 25 cm wide by 12 cm deep. Placement in a home today suits a mantelpiece, sideboard, or bookshelf within a French Chateau style interior. The piece works well as a standalone decorative sculpture in a living room, hallway, or study.

During the 1920s and 1930s, French workshops produced plaster and chalkware sculptures as accessible art pieces, frequently finished with cold-painted patinas to mimic bronzes or terracotta.

These busts were crafted by casting liquid plaster into multi-piece moulds, after which the set form was hand-finished, toned, and painted to achieve depth and texture.

Authentic period examples often feature impressed maker marks, model numbers, or origin stamps near the base, accompanied by age-consistent patination and surface wear.

Position the sculpture on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or bookshelf alongside contemporary books and simple ceramics to add narrative contrast and architectural depth.

Dust the item gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth, keeping it clear of water, harsh chemical liquids, and high humidity to protect the original paint finish.
