Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Japanese work table from 1900 is made from dark brown hardwood with a lacquered finish. The piece takes the form of a rectangular occasional table with a rippled top inlaid with mother of pearl, above a single drawer fitted with an original working key and a gold tassel. Below, the structure is supported by four carved dragon head knees with cabriole legs and scroll feet, complemented by a pierced wooden apron and a lower openwork shelf. Inside the drawer, the interior reveals red lacquer work and gilt decoration. The dimensions measure 76 cm high by 66 cm wide by 41 cm depth. In a modern interior, this item finds a natural home in an empty corner of a gentleman's library, study or living room as a decorative accent table. The compact footprint allows it to sit neatly beside a reading chair or against an interior wall to hold small items while adding period character to the space.

During the Meiji period, Japanese craftsmen produced export furniture combining traditional lacquering and carving techniques with Western furniture forms such as work and sewing tables.

These tables typically feature native hardwoods coated with layers of natural Urushi lacquer, often detailed with relief carving, pierced aprons, or gilded decoration.

Look for detailed hand-carved elements such as mask or dragon motifs, pierced apron rails, natural lacquer wear patterns, and traditional joinery beneath the surface finish.

Position the piece as an occasional table or accent, pairing its dark tones and detailed carving against neutral walls or modern minimalist decor to create visual contrast.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and keep the table away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and high humidity to prevent the natural lacquer finish from cracking.
